I realize there are many threads about this but not quite the answers I'm looking for.

I got caught shoplifting when I was 16 at Sears and because I was a minor I only had to deal with alertnative measures. I also learned my lesson on stealing because it's stupid and not worth ruining my life over.

Except I was at Sobeys on jan23.2010 and I ate a snack worth $1.49 while I was shopping. Apparently I had lost the wrapper to the snack I had eaten and when I was walking out the door they accused me of shoplifting. They were very aggressive with me and a man was holding my arm very hard even though I wasn't even trying to get away. I told them it was an honest mistake and I had every intention on paying for the item and offered to pay for it right away. They didn't believe me, I'm guessing it's because I'm 23... maybe if I was an old lady or something they would have let me off...
Anyway they started to piss me off cause they wouldn't listen to my story so and were being insanely rude to me... so I started getting angry and freaking out in the store and they called the cops and arrested me.

I now have to get fingerprinted and I have a court date.

What do I need to do in order to not get a criminal record? Also I cannot afford a lawyer.

You got caught shoplifting when you were l6, and a minor, okay. So then you visited at Sobeys and you thought you would have snack on them. Give me a break, RStar, or whatever. They pissed you off because you got violent. You are on the wrong site, my friend, for sympathy. Ypu 'aint' getting anywhere here. God knows, Canadians learn laws and get a good education. You would never know from postings here.

Why do you answer people’s questions if you're not even going to actually answer them but instead just make yourself look like an arrogant prick? I have read a lot of your responses to people’s questions and you never seem to have an answer, just some smart comment that you probably think is clever and you laugh at because you think you are so funny. Believe whatever you would like to believe but I wouldn't steal something that was $1.49.. That is pathetic... JUST LIKE YOU!

Next time maybe you should actually READ and UNDERSTAND what people are asking... don't just make up your own story and then answer yourself... you are the embarrassment.

Anyway, I know what you're going through and have made some similar mistakes. I can't believe they went to that extent over a measly $1.49. Some issues CAN be resolved!

What you need to do is hire a lawyer. I know you said you can't afford one but there should be resources available in your city if you just look online. I was able to get my lawyer for $50 because my income was low enough at the time that they accepted my case. They are the only ones who can help you abolish the possibility of a record or at least decrease the severity of the punishment. Google lawyers aid to find one close to you.

You took a 'snack', ate it in the store, threw away the wrapper and tried to walk out. You got caught. Then after you got caught you took exception to it and thought maybe they wouldn't do the same thing to a 'little old lady' the only exception was that you showed attitude and got violent. In hindsight, how do you think that came across?

You are an adult, or should be at what 23. It was more then a stupid mistake, it was intentional and flaunting the rules, that's the way it read.

I don't see anyone here who knows the law, jumping up and saying, gosh, well they should have gone easier on you, after all your were only stealing.

I stand by what I said the first time. No matter what my comment the first time, anyone has a right to post here they way they see fit.

This arrogant prick, as you say is a Canadian senior citizen. We all pay for your 'mistakes' when you steal, no matter if l.49, l4.99 l49.99, whatever, it all costs the rest of us. This arrogant prick as you say is a 67 year old woman and a long time member of this forum. I don't appreciate your comments. I didn't think it was clever, and I wasn't laughing, not funny for me but going to be really uncomfortable for you when you find you have a record for a minor offence and can't find a job,
