For my federal and state tax filing, I need some advice.

I received my salary from Jan.01 to Dec.31 in H1 visa.
However, I left U.S on Nov. 25 and worked in Japan until Dec. 31.
When I tried to use a TurboTax free version (1040EZ), they only asked “State of Residence on December 31, 2009”
Should I check "foreign" for my state of residence? When I checked “foreign”, they didn't ask how long I stayed in U.S and when I processed, my state tax filing showed I was a non-resident of state.

I am a full year resident or part-year resident?

Even though I stayed in U.S from Jan.01 ~ Nov.25, I received my salary and worked until Dec. 31.2009.

Did you receive any income in Japan during 2009. If yes, you need to report it on the Form 1040 or file dual status tax return.

For the state you have to file part year resident return so that you do not report income earned in Japan. If no income is earned in Japan, you can safely put "state name" instead of "foreign," as it will not make any difference in the state tax return.
How TurboTax work, you may have to figure it out yourself or ask TurboTax support.
