I want to remove my boyfriend from my home. Our relationship has reached the end. He refuses to leave. He does not help with the mortgage since it was purchased 8 years ago. He does help with some minor bills (don't go over 300 all bills together). My name is on the mortgage only his name is not but yet he refuses to leave because he states the house is also his. I disagree. The police states that I have to file for eviction to have him removed or I would have to be the one to leave household regardless if house is in my name and I pay mortgage. I do not want to continue arguing and he has already stated that taking him to court will become a major battle. What would be my best options. I have kids he does not. Reason for purchase of home was for my kids and do not want to sell at this point

Taking him to court is not going to be a major battle; he's saying this to scare you because he knows he'll lose.
He is technically a tenant and the police are correct: you need to file to have him evicted.

You are able to remove him if your name only appears on the mortgage.. if he gas aqny bills in his name filed taxes there u will have to give him a written 30 day notice to leave write him a letter make a copy of it then don't lose that... go to post office send it to him certified that way if you need to call cops to remove him u had already given him notice and the cops will give him another 10 days after that come back to your house to see if he had left then if not they will remove him unless he takes you to court you will still need prof you had given him enough time to leave and the courts will tell him to move

This is not accurate. The police will not remove someone from the property unless there is already an eviction judgment in place through the courts.
I don't know how you feel that the OP's boyfriend has grounds to sue her.
