My mom died when I was 17 and I was in prison. It was an unexpected death there for there is no will. I have my mothers death certificate I was wondering how do I close her bank account without a will, or at least a statement from her.

You would have to go to court to have yourself appointed executor of her estate. Then, as executor you can close the accounts. How long ago did she die?

She died in 2006 but I was just released from prison in 2009

Was there ever an executor appointed for her estate? What has happened to her home and belongings?

You need to go to the court house and get a paper drawn up saying that there are no other chrildren if there is they have to sign off on her stuff.. that coulde be a mess if there is.. my husband just went through this 4 months ago .HE needed something saying he is her sarraget meaning in charge of astate.. you will need death certifiacate ss# her old address your id or anything else you have proving you are her daughter.. the bank has to release everything to you if you have this her bank can't be closed if not. If they have closed it its because she had nothing in there.. As for her other belongings the court office should have that on file also it does cost money to get the papers ours was around $150 and took a week to get them GOOD luck hope all goes good for you and sorry for your loss
