Avast! Or Avira?

I'm trying to decided which one to get. I want something that will tell me when I get a virus and will get rid of it easily. Something that is easy to use and doesn't require a lot of attention.

I've had Avast, but I prefer the one I have now... Avira.

I like both. Avira is more accurate according to most third party ratings I've seen. However, Avira also does pop-up ads every time it updates (though there are ways to get rid of that without paying for it, but this does violate Avira's terms and could prevent it from getting future updates).

Both will do what you want. The biggest thing though, is not to get rid of viruses when you get them, but to prevent you from getting the virus in the first place. And both see quite capable of doing this.

Of the free AV's available, Avira rates the best at the moment.

I Like AVG the best, but that's more of an opinion...

Some day I'll take a tricked out computer and run like 10 vm's and all of them have the same bandwidth, memory, etc... just different AV's. Then I'll post the results, scan time, update time, definition database size, first one to get a virus, you know.

Don't count on it for a while though.

I wouldn't take that link as a measure of those program's security.

AV-Comparatives - Independent Tests of Anti-Virus Software - Welcome to AV-Comparatives.org (http://www.av-comparatives.org/) is much more reliable, though a little behind.

Not in the least bit, its just a vote based on user experience. The competency of the users or even who, is never discussed or considered.
