I removed a dark stain (via sanding) on a 6 panel fir door. What happened was I sanded a little too much in one area (sanded through veneer sheath)(oopps) I tried smoothing it out with 000 wool and 220 paper the best I could. I then applied wood conditioner (twice). I then stained with (golden pecan)... I have not poly yet -- hoping for some advice...
I am disappointed in the overall variations of the wood appearnce (I thought the conditioner would make it more uniformly smooth.
But the main issue is the veneer layer that now makes the door appear almost water damaged like... is there any way I can fix this before poly??
I tried to apply tiny amounts of a darker stain in that one area but it made it worse (or made it stand out more)
Any advice would be so helpful
Thanks
Ann
