View Full Version : Tub drains slowly

Okay, here's the situation as I've seen it. My tub doesn't drain quickly, and I've dealt with this off and on for a LONG time.

At first, it was hair/grease/soap, but I put a filter over the drain and that stopped. It drained well for a decent amount of time, then got bad again.

So I let it go until the rest of the house's drains went bad (my toilet threw up on me, and I briefly turned into Spiderman). My house is on a slab and doesn't have a cleanout, so I had to get the guys to shimmy up on the roof and break up the tree roots.

The tree's cut down now, and every other drain in my house is fine. But my tub has gotten bad again lately. Once or twice, I solved it by stuffing a rag into the tub vent and plunging like a madman (took about 200 plunges). I got a sulfur smell and a LOT of dirt. Now, I work a manual labor job, so I put a LOT of dirt in that shower at the end of a night.

But this time, plunging it hasn't worked. I even tried an auger, which went about 16 inches below the surface of my slab foundation (a total of 28 inches). It didn't stop like it hit a clog, but more like it hit a wall.

I absolutely have no clue what the real cause is, here, or how to solve it. I'm basically racing through my shower so the dirty water doesn't have time to wrinkle-up my ankles. This is pathetic.

What can I do here?

I'm confused, What are you attempting to clear. The tub, shower or both? Let me know, Tom

It's a shower tub (a tub that also has a shower), and it has a single drain. When I shower, the water begins to pool at my feet due to poor drainage... it's not in immediate danger of spilling over the sides, but it's soaking my feet and ankles in dirty water. I'm trying to clear this drain.
