Are you asking because you have never had a period before?

It is different for everyone.
Some people don't mind them at all, others wish they were dead 12 times a year.

Ahhh OK, I was a little confused because I though you were a guy before and then you posted this :D

Well then, I can probably answer with a little more depth...

Not trying to be gross but this is the best explanation I can give.
Imagine it being a hot day and you have a whole heap of padding wrapped around your balls... it gets hot, stuffy and uncomfortable.
That's the main reason I use tampons!

Ibufrofen is the best thing ever invented at that time of month :D
The first few days a lot of girls get horrible cramps... they come in waves, pain killers help... a lot!
Then there's the headaches...

The actual bleeding part is hard to describe... as bad as it sounds the worst part I worry about is 'leakage'. The last thing you want is the be walking through town with a big red stain on your pants.

I don't know if that answers your question... it is a hard thing to describe.

How old are you hun?

I do have to let you know that using tampons can be dangerous... and deadly (yes, I know two women who died of toxic shock syndrome).

Has your mother not talked to you about this? Can you not go to your mother?

Yeah I have a mom. And yes I do talk to her. I just got this idea cause we are watching a video on that at my school. And Im not going to use tampons I'm going to use pads. And I'm 12 turning 13 this year.

You may start your period this year, you may not.

Some women get cramping in their stomach or back. Some women don't feel anything. There is no way for us to tell you what symptoms you will get.

In case you are wondering, you do not feel the blood coming out.

I started with pads too. I don't remember really when I got my period I think I was around 11. I started using tampons in high school.

Since you may be starting your period please keep in mind it may not be regular for a long time! Sometimes you'll spot sometimes it'll be like crazy waterfall and sometimes it'll be pink or red or brown.

The best thing to do when you have a question about your period is to ask the school nurse, your doctor, your mom or even here :)

Well I started last year, and so every time it comes its been pretty easy and painless for me.

But everyone is different. ;)

For me, I usually get mad for no reason... Cranky... I get cramps in my lower back and my stomach... I get bloated, extremely bloated... I think I'm one of those people who gets the awefull periods... Not everyone gets them like me... But whenever I do get mine I get it for only 3 days, and get it a week late... It comes like a running faucet, not at nights though... Just some advise, whenever you do get it, always keep spare pads, never wear white or anything that could really show the blood, keep extra panties, Tylenol or something to help with cramps... This comes from experience... I got mine when I was 11...
