I have noticed a constant humming/whislting noise coming from behind my bathroom wall. We can not fugure out what is causing it. We do know that when the gas hot water heater is turned completely off, the noise stops altogether. When hot water heater is shut off, we have no cold water supply in same bathroom tub and shower. This is really unusual! We are also having a problem mantaining hot water through out the home when the hot water heater is on. This is becoming a huge headache. We replaced our hot water heater thinking that this would alleviate the lack of hot water in the home, but we are still having the same problem even with the new system. Any ideas

Hi Theresa, I got to hear what the experts here say about this strange problem, What kind of pipe is the plumbing? You say "noise goes away when hot water heater is turned completely off" Do mean your turning off the hot water line from the heater or shutting off the gas? Is the burner on the water heater staying on all the time? I'm thinking you may have a water leak on the hot side causing loss of hot water and the noise. There'll be expert help here shortly, good luck
