In fact, for my birthday, when asked what I wanted for dinner, I always chose her spinach.

I'd let you guys drink out of my belly button. I have a major innie because I had to have surgery on it when I was a baby.

It's a great place to put your gum on the way down.

Oops....wrong thread? ;)

I learned chewing gum and doing that doesn't work, I tried once but ended up spitting my gum across the room, not placing it in the belly button.

Not really a day off Sunny, but I'm taking some good time before hard work some time later...

As hot as ever, Cat. Rain poured heavily earlier, must be the heat. And then, water started dripping from the cable linking the aerial to the TV. The cable passes through a loose hole in the wall and it's the first time water succeeds in getting it. Got some furniture wet :( Just crossing fingers they won't start to rot.

I went in the yard, pulled on the cable so that no more water could to in that way. Waiting the furniture to dry now...

See if the hardware store has any of the polyurethane foam sealant. It comes in a can like shaving cream and is great for waterproofing structures.

Good idea Cats, in the meantime 'loop' the wire so that the water doesn't travel down into your house. And I would suggest wiping the down to dry it and get the water off them.

Hey Stringer!

We've got some silicon white thingy we use to seal inner water pipes to the wall (toilet lower pipe has been dripping too last year)

The only problem is time! Now, it's night, not much to do...

Last week, a fluorescent lamp came down, in the laundry room. Fortunately, there were the drying line underneath it and prevent it from smashing on the ground. My father used screws to make it stay up there and wood chips to fasten it, but now, the wood has rotten and thus, the lamp fell.

So much to do, so little time, so tired and so HOT!!

Sorry Sunny, just ignore my rants if they make you feel tired :o

That's going to be a herd point to prove in my opinion Unky. In the US there are a significant number of small companies that have pretty much come to be the backbone of this economy.

Red has gone for a haircut (no I'm not spying on her she mentioned it on Facebook earlier )

Shaz has been around, I've seen her in the 'pictures of our pets' thread, or the most recent one anyway, with some brilliant and funny pictures I might add :)

Yeah, Unky was doing a paper on pornography and asked for opinions. I took the pro, Gemini24 and Iwish did con. It seemed like it got a little personal for a while.

Ahhh yeah I remember that thread

I just don't see any way the that side can be advanced Unky. Unless you take a few specific firms and deal with them on a particular point. I. E. polluting the environment, etc.

Yup, right! Yes, Bear, I had a debate about porn in November last year and Cats came to be of great help! :)

The question here, is : "Do small firms have a role in modern business?"

I tried on the net, found that they are 'crucial', not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for arguments that says small firms are 'insignificant' if you get what I mean.

You will probably have to approach it from the "innovativeness" and "growth" point of view. Small businesses like mine are not very innovative, we concentrate on quality rather than quantity. Small businesses like that tend to grow slowly but steadily.

Innovative businesses can grow very fast and get very very big. McDonald's and Wal-mart come to mind as examples. They can change the entire face of business.

How's that for a thesis?

Hmm, if I understand, I need to say for example, "there are firms that cannot have their place in modern business because they do not innovate. Larger firms tend to evolve faster, adjust to the changing world better and have a larger impact on the ever changing society."

I don't know about "cannot" have a place. Their place is not very significant due to their lack of impact on the business paradigm, yet they are important in both maintaining quality and improving volume. Don't fall into the trap of equating significance with importance.

The innovative ones also go bankrupt very spectacularly.

I agree and I wouldn't say that they are not innovative either. They may not have the massive funding for R & D however a lot of new inventions and innovative changes have come from small business also. I know that you are not looking for good reasons for small business but small business is a growth 'market' in this country and has been for some time. Many times due to being small the owners of these companies have to use their resources in more effectively and productively.

Sorry Unky, it is difficult to think negatively about small business.

Hey, I'm tryin' to help the guy out here.

My original examples started small but had an innovative business model that allowed for rapid growth. Ford Motors is another one. The big businesses with a history of innovation are the ones that change the entire concept of business. You and I and the millions of other small businesses are the ones that keep the wheels turning but we're not going to turn the wheels sideways to make hovercraft.

I look stuff up on the web. Google shuts down Tyrannies (Beijing)

If I say there are small businesses like hawkers in roads which make a lot of noise and block the roads, do you think that is a 'good' point?

Or can I for example place more emphasis on the 'modern business', and say like "all modern business need to grow and we cannot afford having many small firms"?

Note: It's as if I'm in the complete darkness here. I'm trying to feel my way out, and trying to know where to go and where not.

A Ha! Here's an approach you can use. Small businesses either have a good idea and grow into big business, like Ford or McDonald's or Wal-mart, or they do not have new ideas and either plod along or fold up. Those that plod along provide jobs but not much else. Those that fold up provide headlines.

Ah to be a newly married couple again. No kids, the newness of living together, the ability to have sex in every room and on every surface of your house without someone walking in on you.

I miss those days.

Sigh.

Our son is five weeks older than our marriage. What married life without kids? :(

Okay, so there was one good thing about my MIL. She would take the kids for days at time. :)

We waited until 3 years of marriage before we decided to try for a child. It was nice having the house to ourselves.

Rod and I didn't live together before we married. We decided to save our money, stay with our parents so we could have a decent down payment for a house when we married.

It wasn't that new, other then having to learn to share the bed and dealing with his snoring. Neither one of us were virgins so that part of marriage wasn't a shock, but sharing a space with someone 24/7, it was a learning experience and it was often tough. It didn't help that we rented his sisters house for the first year. Long story there, she had some of our money, she had bought another house, the real estate market dropped and she didn't want to sell for less then she paid. We couldn't get our money until she sold so we rented the house from her.

After a year, the house still on the market, constantly having to find places to go on the weekend when she had an open house. No being allowed to have our dog (Indy) because she didn't want a pet in the house. It wore on us. We ended up getting the house we live in now with an open mortgage so that we could pay the money she owed us without a penalty.

It was a tough year in many ways.

Wow... I guess not every marriage is a fairytale...

Blacky, if you wanted a fairytale you should have gone to the video store.

There are going to be hard times. There are going to be times when you think about leaving or want to scream. There are going to be times when you actually hate the person you swore to love.

It's natural. You're two different people, you're not going to agree on everything and there are going to be times when you fight.

The secret is to listen. To talk to each other. To remember why you married to begin with and to never forget the love you have for eacthother.

There are things about Rod that annoy the ever loving hell out of me. There are times when I just want to smack him. I know he feels the same way. The thing is, we talk it out. We are partners in this. We are committed to making it work, so it does.

We're lifers. I vowed to stay with him until death do us part and I plan to keep that vow, even if I have to kill him. ;)

Yeah its not very evident these days but then there are some circumstances when people shouldn't stay in a marriage, like if it is really unhealthy or something.

Hmmm I understand Alty... Till death do you part... somehow that part of the vow is not very evident these days...

We wrote our own vows.

They went something like this;

Rod's: I promise to put the toilet seat down after using the bathroom in the middle of the night. I promise to put my sock in the hamper and not under the bed. I promise never to say you look fat in a dress. I promise to change at least 10 diapers on each child that we have. I promise that I will never ever cheat on you and if I do, you can kill me. ;)

Andrea's: I promise to forgive you when you leave the toilet seat up in the middle of the night after I tripped on your socks that weren't in the hamper. I promise not to blame you for getting me pregnant which is why I look fat in that dress. Ten diapers! Good luck with that! If you cheat on me you're going to wish you were dead.

Amen. :)

That's a very good point. If it's that bad, then its best to just cut all ties and leave.

I guess once upon a time, people would work through things no matter how bad they were, that's all I'm saying.

Well people often suffered in silence and lived miserable lives because they thought they couldn't get out of the marriage.

For our's it was closer to:

You want to marry her?

You want to marry him?

We were married by a Judge who was a friend of the family in his apartment. I sometimes think that was better for us than the stress of a larger wedding. :)

That's true, but sometimes they decided not to live like that and do something about it, other than leave. They'd do everything they could, and more, to improve their situation because divorce was the last thing on their mind.

To some, including me, death is better than divorce. That's going along the lines of the vows, till death do us part.

I guess that's true, divorce seems easier these days rather than staying and working on it. I guess it depends on the situation.
