I know this is an unusual question, but I'm dating a real estate appraiser, and I would like to know if he can obtain access to my social security number without my permission or knowledge? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Probably anyone with the right software nowadays could access your SS#. As a real estate agent, I can gain access to home and title documents without permission. I could look at SS#'s of past transactions on Disclosure forms. As an appraiser, unless they have access to this info in a Real Estate (or mortgage) Broker's office where you have forms signed, I am not aware of how being an appraiser would give them this privilege.

You could be dating other men in different professions that may have the same access. Why do you ask?

I'm asking because I feel that it is an invasion of my privacy for someone to search my SS# and find out my place of employment, my earnings, etc... without my permission.

You are right, it is, that's for sure. Has he brought it up to you, teasing you? If so, that would be kind of odd. Hopefully, as time goes by, he can be one you can trust so, when you are ready to share your life with him, it can be fulfilling. The best to you!

People can find out things about almost anyone, in today's society, if we really don't know who we are going to date, it is common to do background searhes.

With just a little work, one can use various sites to find out a lot on amost anyone

There is a difference in knowing who someone is and invading their privacy. I have never, nor would I, search someone's SS#. That's private! If you don't trust someone you're dating than get out of it. I believe that a name, address and phone number are sufficient. Prior work records and income have nothing to do with dating someone unless you're looking for trouble or just plain creepy.
