I was curious about something, I recently came across my file with child support order in it from 11 years ago. My son's biological father has never (up until now) paid a single penny for child support or helped us in any way shape or form. He saw him between 5-7 times between birth and age 3. He has a very documented legal past (arrests, jail time, etc.). Suddenly he made a $20 child support payment last month... why on earth would he do this, he owes over $19,000 and has never before made a payment. We live no where near him and he has at least 2 other children w/different mothers that he has to pay support to that live in his state and are younger than my son. What are the chances that he could get visitation after 11 years of willful absence from his life? Zero I hope. He has posed a threat to our health and safety in the past as he was involved in illegal activities... if anyone has had similar exp will you please share... I am wondering if this is some term of probation or something he has to follow. I left a message for the CSD but haven't gotten a return call yet.

So long as he is the legal father of the child then he can apply for visitation. What does your current orders say about it? As far as why he made some kind of payment that is something your going to have to ask him. Maybe he has turned his life around. A lot can happen in 11 years.

Get in touch with a lawyer, maybe legal services, or CSD and ask about going to court and get them to declare the child abandoned. This will server any rights he might have. I'd think hard about cashing the check. It could prove recent contact. Good Luck

We take pride in our answers on the legal thread and the info you have provided is incorrect in several ways.

Please post your source of this info.

Note that we do not know which State/Country the OP is in.

And also if OP believes he is a danger to the children she should go back to Court NOW and file for an amendment to the original Order, PROVING how the father's behavior is a danger to the children.

The good news is that now OP has an address for the father and can pursue past due child support.

And there certainly is a chance that the father has turned his life around and that very well could include a remarriage and stability - !
