I am a Permanent US Resident but a British Citizen. I have been retired for the past 3 years. Previously I worked from 2000 through 2006 for a British Company. For the first 3 years I and my company paid UK National Insurance for my UK Government pension instead of US Medicare (this was by a US and UK reciprocal agreement) although I paid all other US Taxes. From 2003 through 2006 I paid Medicare contributions. Now retired I'm paying PART A Medicare (just under $500.00 a month) because I only have 16 Medicare credits.
Can I pay from my own savings the Medicare contributions for years 2000, 2001 and 2002 NOW?
If this is were possible I'd be able to increase my Medicare credits from 16 to 30 which will be a long way towards the 40 credits in total that I require.
Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.
