I had a professional plumber install a new TOTO Drake tank and bowl. A couple of days later, it started leaking from the left bolt hole. The plumber returned and replaced the tank as he thought there must be a hairline crack. The leak started again the next day (from the same place.. left bolt hole). He returned and replaced the bowl. The next morning, I noticed the leak from the same area. This was the second tank and the second bowl! I used a mirror and looked under the tank where the bolt is... it appears that the washer is not flush with the tank and is unable to be flush because of a small ridge around the bolt hole. I looked at the non-leaking right bolt hole. The washer there is completely flush against the tank. Could I have two defective bowls? Could the ridge be misplaced in a certain lot of toilets? What to to? I have spent $$ on 3 plumbing visits and now will have to have another one. By the way, the tank seems solid on the bowl, does not move and the bowl itself does not rock and has got shims. Please help!

You need a better plumber, one who also does not charge for call backs. The cost for visits #2 and #3 are his cost, not yours. If he charged you one dime for ether visit get rid of him and put s top on your first check. If you see a ridge on one side of the bowl and not on the other call a Toto dealership and ask them to look into the issue, this should not be. http://www.totousa.com/Default.aspx?tabid=74

Thank you for your quick reply! There is a ridge on the right hand bolt hole as well. However, the washer on the right hand side fits quite nicely inside the ridge. The ridge seems to be a circle or semi-circle where the washer should fit in... I think! On the left, the washer is "on" the ridge so it (the washer)isn't flush against the tank.

I have to admit I do not have much of a call for Toto due to the cost. If both sides have identical ridges then I'd blame the plumber. If either ridge is slightly different contact Toto at my link. This guy, the "plumber" ask him what he is doing with the toilets he is pulling out, he can't be eating the cost, is he in contact with Toto?
