Hi experts,

I am a L-1 visa holder who entered the US on May 2009. I am going to leave the country at the end of Dec 2009 as my post was made redundant. My questions are:
- What was my status for the last months for tax purpose? Is it non-resident alien?
- Which forms should I fill in order to claim tax return?
- Can I put myself as one exemption for taxation? I am single and only have one job.
- Once I leave the country, the tax return will be sent to me as a cheque or can it be deposited to my US bank account if I still maintain one? Is it possible to receive the cheque overseas?

Thank you very much.

You are a dual-status alien who needs to file BOTH Forms 1040 and 1040NR.

Yes, you can claim one exemption.

Maintain the U.S. bank accounr for direct deposit, which is faster and safer tham mailing the check.
