My friend moved away last year, not far.. but its just london that separates us and there's no way for me to avoid going through london to get to chichester (where she lives).. I'm terrified of waiting at platforms on the underground stations in case there's just someone lurking about, usually I stand near a woman with children because I feel more safe that way and I'm less likely to look alone. I'm fifteen and it really affects me because all my friends tell me to get over my fear - but it seems that now a days all the media's stories are ".... was kidnapped in a park early yesterday morning" or all the stories on joseph fritzel and sex pests stealing kids.. please help me find a way to get over this.. and before someone says "make her come to you", she does - but she's just as bad on the underground..

Perhaps you could have a male friend wait with you at the train station.

Hi Rosanna-hope
I'm glad you're not careless about traveling alone! What you're feeling helps keep you safe, so please don't "get over it". Standing by others is a good idea. I agree with sabrewolf about maybe having someone wait with you. Be aware of your surroundings, look around at the people, the exits, have an air of confidence in your stance and stride. Look like you mean business! Get some mace and keep it in your pocket ready to blast! Emanate power and strength... predators want easy prey--so don't look scared and vulnerable--look like you'll poke someone's eyes out if they come too close! Be a lioness! And be SMART!
Safe travels to you!
