As soon as it's downloadable on the movie site I use to download all the new movies I'll download it, view it and come back with my opinion. I download all the new movies - yes - even the bad ones. I don't bother going out to the theater anymore... too expensive.
But hey, thanks, Exie for the movie recommendation. I appreciate it.

But the 3D... You Got to see it in 3D. It's spectacular... It's not the old time 3D where they throw spears at you. It really blends into the story.

The last 3D movie I saw was "The House of Wax" when I was a kid. All I remember about that movie was the scene where the guy with the paddle balls making the balls come out over the audience thinking they were going to bash you in the head.
3D doesn't really impress me that much. I guess I'm just a regular movie goer. I don't get too excited about IMAX stuff. Maybe I should. Want to take me to the next 3D movie??

Great movie, Ex, about the capitalist environmental vandals. We all knew who they were representing. That marine, just so gung ho! Hope the people of Afghanistan aren't enduring that type.
Do you know there are places in Africa just like that today?

Now, Ex, that's odd, they changed me the same price. Not often you find something cheaper here than in the US

Yes the movie was spectacular Ex, 2 hours and 20 minutes, and the 3D has improved a ton from the old stuff.
We went to one of those new 'dinner movie theaters'. Nice comfortable living room seats, waiter comes around takes your order; burgers, salads, mixed drinks or beer, nice. Tickets are $22 bucks apiece, the food and drink bill is additional, but the experience was just great and the seats kicked back and they offer up pillows.
Have you seen this girl that plays the lead, the native girl?

I will go to see it ;probably on new years day(the early matinee) . If I restricted my entertainment to non-liberal themes I wouldn't see many movies. So long as the art isn't personally offensive I can tolerate sitting through a couple of hours of left wing politics . Why not ? I endure left wing entertainment every day watching network news.
I happen to like the premise of a life sustaining moon orbiting a gaseous planet . It increases the probability of intelligence life out there by quite a bit . I also appreciate the technological advances that movie creators like Cameron have made ;although I still think that movies need some solid acting behind them to make them work.
And with Cameron I already know his politics from the Alien movies... evil corporations and soldiers reluctantly following orders.

I'd heard it was a lib's wet dream but like tom said, if that kept us away from Hollywood we wouldn't have much to watch. Personally I'm more interested in seeing Sherlock Holmes (http://sherlock-holmes-movie.warnerbros.com/) first.

Maybe Cameron's politics are leftward but I've enjoyed the Aliens and the Terminators. Maybe that is what liberals are good for entertainment, just don't let them govern ;)

I can't watch a movie at the IMAX. Screen is to big and I can't stand constantly turning my head left to right. Last movie I saw at the IMAX was The Dark Knight. Man, I gave up trying to watch that half way through the movie.
I am with Fr_Chuck I wait until it is at the Red Box (or whatever it is called) at the grocery store rent it for a dollar. I have a copyright breaker program I rip the DVD and store it on my 1TB media server at home.
PS isn't AVATAR basically a rip off Dances with Wolves?

Hay Exy,I saw it on line and I liked it.
Was able to appreciate much of the C.G. effects but I am told you need to see it in the theater for the full three D effects.
Next time you and I go together, refreshments on me !
I might even pop for a beer afterwards !
I liked the new take on an old theme.

Saw Avatar yesterday . You are right Ex ;seeing it in 3D Imax is the way to go . It was visually stunning and Cameron has almost completely bridged the gap between live acting and animation.
But as has been mentioned here already ;the genre of a white man thrust into a different culture ;embracing the culture;falling in love with one of the women ;and finally becoming a champion of the culture battling other whites is not really a new theme. My thoughts immediately went to' The Emerald Forest '.But although this story has been told before ,I suspect as long as the story is well told;it is a timeless tale.
Tell me again why I would not like it ? Cameron, like me ,sees the bureaucrat as a power hungry egomaniac. Unchecked they become like locust on the landscape.
I also was attracted to the Na'Vi society . To achieve in their culture you had to earn it through a series of accomplishments. Nothing is given to them . Jake the hero becomes the top warrior by riding a dragon-like creature ;something only the very elite of the tribe has ever done before. He achieves by his own initiative .
This fits in well with Jake's own views of self reliance . As a disabled vet ;he never uses his disability as an excuse . He doesn't accept help handouts or special favors . He could've easily remained on earth feeling sorry for himself collecting from the nanny-state. Instead he takes personal risks for the chance of great rewards.
Western history being what it is I get the comparison to the taming of the West ;the East India company etc. I dismiss the modern zeitgeist that conservatives wage war against Muslims for oil for the big evil corporation . So I see no need to let that theme sway me from concluding that going to see Avatar was money well spent.

Or you could look at it another way too.
It was just another Hollywood pic that depicted how the world, particularly those so worse off, can't get by without a white warrior to save the day and show them they way.
The 'savages' were about peace and love until the tough white hero saved the day and showed them that going to war was a good thing sometimes.
The poor old native were completely incapable and needed a white American (Australian actor) soldier to save there world. Sounds familiar.
I somewhat disagree Ex. This movie goes along with the rights idea's as much as it is against it.

Skell I read a similar review today that made the same observation. The hero white person saving the person of a different race is a major liberal feel good theme that has been depicted many times in cinema . Sandra Bullock's most recent movie about American football is a good example of this genre .

I keep reading these silly remarks and it is like saying the wizard of oz is bad because it makes fun of little people, witchcraft and Kansas ( OK you can make fun of Kansas and still be politically correct I think)
It is a Sci fi show, why do people want to try and find things wrong with movies

I've read where people are getting depressed that they can't go to another planet? What the heck? Go to another planet? Those people are obviously using any excuse to be "depressed". And over a movie, no less? I guess they can get more pills to pop if they are depressed.

What, can't they afford a holiday outside the US? Such people probably don't go outside their door. There are plenty of places on this planet that are different and challenging and it only takes a day or so to get there. I can understand them though, daytime television is so boring. So devoid of ideas. What we need is a good saga such as a voyage to Mars or Saturn to get us interested again:)
