If you have a gas provider have them come and rehook the line as they can do the testing that will ensure a good seal. Or you can hire a licensed plumber to do this and have him test the connection for leaks. Not really recommended you do this yourself unless you have the leak testing equipment.

I'll chime in here for a bit.
Gas is dangerous, plus we have no idea what kind of connection you have.
I an assume the simplest.
A flex tube or corrogated gas line which requires no modifications to work.
Hard black iron pipe makes things MUCH more difficult.
1. All ignition sources have to be turned off in the vicinity. The heater pilot, the water heater pilot and the heater(s) have to be turned off in the general area.
2. Light swiches should not be moved.
3. Appliances should be electrically disconected.
4. The area should be ventilated
5. You should be wearing safety glasses
6. There should be a fire extinguisher nearby
7. Leak detect solution should be available
8. You'll need two wrenches to disconnect the lines.
The gas needs to be turned off near the appliance. MAke sure it's turned off when the gas line is disconnected.
Make sure the fittings are clean. Don't use pipe dope on compression fittings.
You have to use pipe dope black pipe.
Once the connections are re-made, about 1.5 turns past finger tight and the gas turned on, you have to check for leaks. It will take a few trials for the dryer to light.
Gas is heavier than air.
Be careful. We cannot be held responsible.
