View Full Version : How do I "save face" in front of my family?

I have not felt this dumb for awhile now. I'd like suggestions (if there are any) on how to "save face" in front of my family. Basically here's the story:

This morning I received an email from a relative (one of my dad's cousins) who wanted to confirm if our family would be attending the annual Christmas dinner at their house.

For some reason, this year I am just not in the mood to be bothered with this specific dinner.

Anyway, I then forwarded the email to my mother at work, and basically hoped that "...a) aunty carol will decide to celebrate chris' birthday on the 25th, b) uncle mel will come out, and c) it and just go." This was exactly what I wrote in that little email to my mom, and I also asked her a personal question. Fine, right?

Just an hour ago she "cc'd" me as well as my dad's cousin ALONG WITH MY EMAIL THAT WAS JUST MEANT FOR HER TO READ! Now I feel like a major butt because I have made myself look stupid and rude in front of my dad's side of the family. I have no doubt everyone will find out, but it will be a "hush-hush" kind of thing.

I hope this story makes sense. I just want to know if there is anyway I can "save face" or come up with a 'cover story' as to why I'd write something like that. I am definitely upset at my mom for being careless, but I suppose I know now to never write stuff like that in an email.

Other than attending, having a good time, and blaming your e-mail on just being caught at a bad time I can't think of a thing.

Play it off as a joke, or ignore that you sent it? Yikes.
