I just moved in to a new construction two story home with a finished basement and when I turnd the hot water faucet in the bathtup (Jakuzzi with air jets only) on the second floor, yellowish water started to come out from it after a few seconds. When this dirty water drained out I noticed a purple like film residue on the bottom of the tub. The cold water was fine.
At first I tried all the hot water faucets on the second floor and they too started to have the same problem. Then I tried the first floor hot water faucets and it took a little bit longer but the same color yellowish water started to come out there as well. The same thing then happened in the basement.
After I closed all of the faucets and waited for a couple of hours everything went back to normal (I did not try the bathtub faucet), and all the hot water faucets had clean water.
I did the same thing the next day with the same effect.
Any suggestions what is causing this?

Flush your water heater and see if that helps. For long life and fewer troubles you should keep your heater clear of mineral build-up by FLUSHING NOT DRAINING on a regular schedule. Attach a hose to the boiler drain at the bottom of the tank. With the pressure on, open the boiler drain and let it run until the water runs clear. You will see a spurt of red,(rust) followed by white or yellow grains,(lime or calcium carbonate). This shouldn't take more then a few minutes. Do this monthly to keep it clear. Now flush out your hot water lines on ALL fixtures that are affected . Now pull each aerator and clean the screens. Be sure you put them back together the same way you took them out. Don't forget to flush it out every month. Your heater will thank you for it. Hope this helps and thank you for rating my answer, Tom
