I just bought a rehabbed house in which they replaced all the bathrooms and the kitchen and my problems started from day one. At first I used my washing machine and heard a gurgling noise in my kitchen sink. I was told that there was a clog in the main drain. They plunged the drain at the curb and immediately there was a gas smell that came up through every toilet in the house. It went away in the upstairs bathrooms but stayed in the basement bathroom. The plumber could not figure out the problem. They ended up taking out the toilet in the basement and running a camera through the lines. There were no cracks, breaks or blocks. Now, all the guys were there scratching their heads. Then they filled a gap between the toilet and the flange(sp?) and that stopped the gas smell from coming up. Then a few days later, I flushed the master bathroom toilet and heard a metal banging sound. Then the water in the hallway bathroom toilet was sucked out and the gas smell was coming up from both the sink and the toilet. I flushed the hallway toilet and the water came back up and the smell seemed to go away. Also when you flush the toilets both in the master bath and the hallway bath, you can hear them draining in the sink. And if all of this was not bad enough, in the master bathroom, they hooked my toilet up to the hot water instead of the cold water. The water in the tank is very hot and the water in the toilet is warm. PLEASE HELP. I'M GOING OUT OF MY MIND WITH THIS PROBLEM.

Plumber, are you sure this was a plumber, sounds more like a butcher. You needed a standard wax ring under the toilet, nothing magical or mysterious about that fix. I also think you need to hire someone who knows what a gurgle sound means and also knows how to rod the vent stack from the roof.
