My husband & I are wanting to get temporary custody of our two grandchildren, ages 3 & 6. Their mother (our daughter) has been in rehab twice, and is actively using again. From the outside everything looks OK, but I know it isn't. The children are very comfortable in our home. In the past they have all lived here for periods up to 6 months. They have their own rooms here, and we are very well equipped to take care of them.

I am not sure if their mother will agree to the arrangement, but I want to be prepared when we get ahold of her to discuss it.

I would appreciate any info you can give us.

Thank you
Jan

Consult an attorney. To get custody you will have to prove your daughter is a danger to the children.

What about the father?

Two different fathers. One just not in the picture, the other is a drug addict who would love to get back at our daughter and us. He is an evil man. I really don't want either to know anything about it. One other issue is that one of the children is Native American which throws another monkey wrench into the picture.

You have no choice about keeping this from the fathers The court will require that they be notified. And yes one of them being a Native American may complicate things, since the tribe may want to take care of that child.

So, you really need to consult an attorney who can help you with this.
