My husband and I have been married for 4 years but have been living together for 14 years. We have three children together. I worked and put myself to collge and have been contributing all these years into our home. Our home is paid off but he refused to add my name on the deed.

If he decide to divorce me. Would I get anything from this house. I do not want to be greedy but I want what is my and for the children? Every time, I brought this topic up, he would make a jokes by saying "NO" and would not discuss it. I do not want to get into an agrument but want to ensure that I'm protected by the law. I live in Mass.

Please help me if you could.

Thank
Nikki

Why would he divorce you, are you thinking of leaving him?

Does he give any reason why he won't do it? I would check if Mass is a community property state. If it is then you are protected.

In a divorce a settlement is an issue of negotiations. So, while you may not get the house, you should get something.

Frankly, though, I wonder why you are concerned about this. If you were together 10 years then married and have stay married for 4 more years, you should be reasonably secure.

Again I go back to whether you are in a community property state. If you are and the house was purchased after you moved in with him, then you should be protected. If its not, then you would have to negotiate as part of the divorce decree.

In the case of a divorce, he couldn't leave you high and dry. The courts would ensure that you received child support as well as alimony or some other settlement.
