Jean, you are asking something we can't answer, certainly not under the circumstances because they are controlled substances. Please explain why she is on pain medication and so much at 22 years old, and you are administering it.

Hello tick.
No I am not in any way giving kelly this medication of my own back,
She is under a pain management doctor who prescribes oxycontin 15mgs twice a day and oxynorm as and when 5ml.
She has the IM morphine when we have to take her to A/E as an emergency with the pain in her right side and then moves up to under her ribs.
She was on IV morphine but the veins are no good and you prob know there is more chance of an addiction.
Kelly is very complecated as she vomits blood daily has not missed a day yet yes it has been witnessed by health athourities i.e. nurses, doctors, paras.etc but they cannot find the cause as of yet doctors are coming to the conclusion that she may be the only one in the country if not the world to have this condition.
Just wondered why the IM did not work.
Kind regards
Jean

I know this question is a bit old and the OP probably might not see this, but just as an FYI- I read about an enzyme in the liver that must be present in order for morphine to work. Some people simply do not have the enzyme. It's quite rare, but it happens.

Morphine in any form (even IV) has no effect on me either!

I found these links:

Morphine IM Uses and How to Use (http://www.healthsquare.com/drugs/83019.htm)

Hospice World (http://www.hospiceworld.org/book/morphine.htm)

From this link: Some pains (visceral and soft tissue) respond well to morphine and some (bone, nerve and colic) do not.

I don't see any reason why this info is not applicable to humans: Vomiting problems in Dogs (http://www.vetinfo.com/dvomit.html)

No reason at all.

OK. Am I alllowed to guess? Rule out the above. It's likely that it could be nerve related, so oxcontin and morphine might just cause sedation. Not good at all.

Calm the stomach. Rantadine (OTC) might be useful for that. It's available as 150 mg over the counter and 300 mg tablets by prescription.

Might suggest that an EMG along with a nerve conduction test be done.

Morphine may not work, then lets assume it's bone, nerve or colic. I think you can rule out bone.

Now you have nerve and colic. I think you have both.

EMG, do the VET stuff. Deal with the stomach.

I'd ask about about starting something like Rantidine and attempt to get the stomach calmed down.

Try to get a script for Neurontin/Gabapentin, GRADUALLY increase the dose to 3600 mg/day. Yep, an awfull lot. 2700 mg/day is no problem for me, but start slow. 3600 mg/day is too much for me. Lyrica is similar and that can be tried too.

Considering, I am on oxycontin and neurontin, I know what the meds can do.

My $.02

Find a doc that's willing to figure out what's going on.
