There is a list of mercury and steroid-based lighteners that has been banned in many countries: https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/skin-lightening/list-products-w-mercury-steroids-386591.html

Also, you can read the health risks caused by steroid and mercury-based products: https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/skin-lightening/skin-li...rs-420878.html

But those are not concise lists, they seem to list only African products.

Well, mostly.

Honestly, majority of the products are made in Africa as well as some being made in India are in fact dangerous. Adulterating the products with steroids, mercury and other heavy metals which can lighten actually lighten the skin but also will eventually damage the skin as well as an individual's health.

Unfortunately, it is the many business owners from other countries move to these locations, especially to Africa, where they can produce such products, and then later market them world-wide. Some of these products have been banned in certain areas due to their toxicity. There are also products that do not label the full ingredient list and omit mentioning the product also containing harmful ingredients, for example clobetasol propionate. Which are later identified after being tested in laboratories.
