I have a Briggs and Stratton model #030242 Elite Series 6200/8750 watt generator. The generator has a bonded neutral.

I also have GenerLink unit installed at the electric meter on my house to connect the generator through. The GenerLink unit requires the generator to have a floating neutral.

I would also like to be able to use the generator in the field away from my house. To safely do this I would think I would have to re-bond the neutral on the generator. My thought is to mount a On-Off toggle switch on the rear of the control panel and wired to the neutral and ground treminals where the jumper is now located.

My question: What voltage and amp rating would be reqiured for such a toggle switch?

Some of the contractors around here doing something similar but make up a cheater plug instead of the switch. They take a standard 5-15p plug (regular 15 amp extension cord replacement) and put a jumper from the neutral to ground screw.

When they are on site they plug it into one of the 120v receptacles. At home, they pull it.

The toggle can get bumped. It's really easy to notice a bright orange plug in a receptacle. Just put a bungee on it and tie it to the generator frame when not in use.
