This was a drama/romance film and I didn't see the whole movie, but from what I remember a blonde young woman was visiting a tropical island with an older man (who I think was her father). She falls in love with one of the native young men of the island, even though he will have an arranged marriage to another native island woman. The woman he is betrothed to is occasionally forced by another young man to have sex with her. Right before they get married, the native woman is undressed in front of the whole village and tested by an elder for her virginity. When it is discovered she is not a virgin she is so upset that she runs away and committs suicide by throwing herself in the ocean.

Since the one time I did see it was in the early '90's and I'm pretty sure it was rated R, I'm guessing it was released sometime from the 70s to early 90s.

That's as far as I got in the movie and I can't remember the title at all. Does anyone know what movie this is?
