How do I apply for a CAF number? I am applying for POA on a form 2848 and the form asks for a CAF.

Hello bob:

In the law, there are jillions of acronyms and forms... Some of us are familiar with ALL of 'em and some of us aren't..

I gather that you applying to be a power of attorney for something, but I have no idea what form you're talking about or what a CAF number is.

I'm familiar with POA's, but I've never heard of a "form" that one fills out to BE a POA.

So, unless somebody comes along who knows all that stuff, why don't you spell out what it is you're trying to do. Then whatever a CAF number is, might become obvious to one of us.

Let me Google that for you:

What is a CAF number? (http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=161253,00.html)

And it even looks related.

You do not need a CAF# the first time you file a 2848. Write "Applied For" in that spot, fill out the rest of the information on the form, and check the boxes for "new phone" & "new fax". The CAF Unit will snail mail the # assigned to you.
