Dog Attack; How can I find the Homeowner Insurance name and policy number to file a claim? While walking my 13 year old leashed Lab at a public park, we were attached by an off-leash, in tack, male bit bull.  The dog’s owner is an adult male who was living with his parent and has since moved.  Neither the dog’s owner nor his parents are willing to take responsibility for reimbursement of the injuries to my dog or myself.  The parents (the homeowners) have refused to give me the name and policy number of their homeowner’s insurance company so I may file a claim and will no longer communicate with me.  How do I find the homeowner’s insurance company name and policy number if the homeowner is unwilling to give it?

Here in Ontario you can file a police report which may or may not kull results but sometimes it works to squeeze that information out of the people responsible. If you sustained injuries (and yes I know yor dog did too) that may give you a leg up to file in court for damages. Is there any legislation in place in your community regarding pit bull bans, etc. That may help with the police activity.

Years ago when this happened to my Schnauzer being bit and held down by a large german shepherd mixed breed, I went directly to the homeower and made them pay the vet bill. They sort of knew they had to because there were witnesses attesting to the fact that the young boy with the dog could not restrain his animal.

Unless you communicate with your own insurance company, could be they can get this information for you some way. Don't know, just a thought.

How do I find the homeowner’s insurance company name and policy number if the homeowner is unwilling to give it?Hello k:

Who cares who he's insured by? Sue HIM. If he wants to turn it over to HIS insurance company, that's his choice. But, it's certainly not your worry.

Small claims is quick, cheap and easy.
