When changing the oil for 2004 Ford F250 are you supposed to also fill the oil filter chamber with oil?
I recently changed the oil and its where it shoulld be on the dipstick but is idling rough and loud. I'm trying to figure out why.

It's a good idea to prefill oil filters. Still, the total amount of oil should not exceed the amount called for; e.g. 15 quarts for the 7.3L PSD, including the oil filter. Best to use only full-synthetic diesel HDEO.

You may want to test your glow plugs, purge water, and change the fuel filter. Winter can be tough on diesels, but it doesn't have to be.
