My question is in regards to where is the heating element located in an electric dryer. I recently had a new carpet installed in the room where my dryer is located and I need to know if it will be safe to run the dryer or if I should put some type of fire retardent material under it. Thank you in advance for your help with this subject.

Until someone that knows for sure to come along, I think it is better to err on the side of caution, and either don't use the dryer or at least protect the carpet with something nonflammable, even sheetrock will work, a little messy, but consider the alternative.

Can you find the model number and look at the manufacturer's website for an owner's manual? Something like that I believe will be addressed there.

If you want to really be cautious, you can place it on top of one of those platforms that they make for woodstoves.

They also make a certain board, its been a while since I purchased some so I forget exactly what it is called, but its concrete based. It can be used in a wall behind a wood stove, a regular range, and I would suppose, even a dryer. I think its something like a 3X5 piece, and 6 years ago it cost about $15.
