Just bought a 2008 Ford Ranger KLT with 12K miles on it. Truck is pristine but it has a vibrating noise when idle that drives you crazy.

1) When I start cold the engine revolutions go up to over 2000 rpm. Ford dealer says that is normal. Other new Rangers in the lot do not do it!

2) When idle, like when stopping at a traffic light, the exhaust noise and vibration is so loud that you cannot open the windows. You fill that your ears will vibrate out of your head. There is too a slight noise like if intake valves are out of timing. Is this normal? Dealer says it is.

Thoughts:

. Place truck on a lift and completely check the catalytic converter and exhaust system.

. Disconnect electrical connector to the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV), adjust idle rpm, and reconnect IACV connector.

. Ensure spark plugs are the proper Motorcraft plugs.

. Use SAE 5W-30 full-synthetic engine oil and proper filter.
