I had a water supply line burst and caused damage to my condo and the unit downstairs. My question is. Is it a common thing for a water supply line to burst? It looks like it separated from the base (part that screws into the water valve).

This is a real old condo 27 years old. I'm not sure how old the water line is. It does look newer.

Water lines EASILY break when they freeze. Copper tube wears ans will split sometimes. Cold solder joints cause fittings to come apart.

We have to know a few things about the failure. How, type of pipe and temperature.

Water lines lrt go for the reasons KISS gave you in his post. Also, angle stops can develop cracks that allow water to pour out. What do you mean by "base part"? Did the supply come loose? Please explain in detail. Regards, Tom

Good luck suing manufacturer or distributor. I think your best shot is to have your H/O insurance cover it.

I think the rule of thumb here is that you should inspect your plumbing periodically and replace whatever doesn't pass your visual inspection. I know, it is not right - but that's how it is.

Plumbing is like health: it is all about prevention.
