This morning I came into work to find this email. I just want to see if my employer is allowed to do this or it's against the law?

"Please be advised that all COD customers MUST pay their bill prior to picking up their jobs. While (name of employee) is the person that most often deals with customers in this area, I know there are times when other people must do this job.

Any employee allowing COD customers to take their jobs without full payment will be subject to being sent home for one day without pay. Any manager that does the same will have to pay the bill out of their own pocket.

Hope I am being clear about this subject. If not clear, please advise. Thank you.

Its legal for them to send you home. If you are an hourly employee then they can not pay you for the time you are not working. However, if you are salaried they cannot dock you. They may be able to force you to cover any losses they incur if the customer doesn't pay.
