Ok so I have a day&night A/C and heater setup on my roof. I recently had a problem where the burners would not light so I got a honeywell retrofit kit. Just put that in today and got it all set up. Wasn't very hard to get going. Now the problem is, when I turn on my heater it kicks on, pilot lights and then the burners light. Burners are on for a couple of minutes and then sometimes the fan kicks in at a low speed. Sometimes it doesn't but it always shuts off. I was told that it has a temp sensor in there and that it shuts off to protect the heat exchanger.

If I turn the fan on manually and turn on the heater it works fine and it runs like there is nothing wrong. Someone told me that the fan has a sensor in there to tell when it gets hot and that it may be faulty or its wired incorrectly.

Anyone have any ideas? It would be nice to set the heater and not have to worry about it. Thanks!

Provide complete unit model # & Honeywell kit # to allow data lookup. Was this a symptom before the retrofit kit was installed?

I might have figured something out. My old unit had a violet plug that went to a heat relay coil. My new one doesn't have anything for it though so I'm confused. My new unit is a "Y8610U Intermittent Pilot Retrofit Kit" made by Honeywell. If I turn the fan on manually it works fine though. I am trying to get the info for the heater model and everything but I know it was installed in 83, I found the sales recipt for it recently.

You're on the right track. If the heat relay coil is not being powered, fan operation will not be initiated.

Do I need to just plug that into the power transformer or does it need to get power at a certain time during heat up?

Do I need to just plug that into the power transformer or does it need to get power at a certain time during heat up?You posted Honeywell kit#, but not equipment model & product#. Need both to view schematics.

Is from my old system. The schematic on there show is violet or VIO wire going to the coil on page 2.

I'll check it out, check back later.

Diagram shows red from ignition module & violet from heat relay coil connected to terminal #3 on gas valve. Is this how yours is wired?

You mean on the honeywell or my old setup? On the new one (honeywell) the violet is plugged into nothing.

I looked over the honeywell setup over and over again and I can't figure out where to plug it in, but if you say the red wire, that would mean the MV wire going from the box to the valve.

Correct, according to the equipment diagram.

It works!

Thank you so much for your help! I had to get up there to do a quick fix since its supposed to get frosty tonight. Hopefully when the weather clears up I can get up there and clean up my wiring job. Thanks again!
