My sister, who lives in Washington State, was recently arrested for spousal abuse after she scratched her husband when he put his hands around her neck. Now, he has a restraining order so she can't go home. She has not worked in 20 years and has no access to her things or any money. She wants to file for divorce but doesn't have money to pay for a lawyer. He has not been paying any of their bills. He doesn't even put money in their checking account. She doesn't have any place to stay, so she just stays with different familymembers for a few days at a time. I'm in a different state and can't do much to help. Hopefully, I can get some good advice here.

She has to go to the County and ask for FREE Legal Counsel from Social Services. That is insane and I am very sorry for her and the worry the both of you have to share.

She will have to qualify for temporary Cash Aid, Food Stamps, and as much help as she can get. If she can't get any paperwork from her house, it will all have to be told to a County Attorney that may have a suggestion as to how to legally proceed.
