I have a Moen single-handle tub and shower valve that I have installed. To this set-up, I added a diverter valve I found online that I hoped would take the full-flow of the water on it's way up from the pull on the spout to the shower head, and divert all of it to a wall-mounted hand held shower head, and vice-versa. It didn't, but rather sent water to both at the same time.

QUESTION: Do you know of a company that makes an in-wall valve that will give full-flow to either shower head ( one at a time ) and how to pipe it in?

Symmons makes a 3-port in wall diverter... available at almost any plumbing supply company.

One port is the inflow and the other two ports go to each head individually. Each head gets full flow when water is diverted.

Pfister, Grohe, Danze, Kohler, HansGrohe, Delta... and much more... just about every major faucet manufacturer makes diverters.

It seems to me you didn't install it correctly. Can you post a drawing of what you did... or perhaps a photo ? Can you tell us what is the model # of the Moen diverter you installed ? How many ports ? It would be very helpful...

But in the interim:

3-Port diverter is for 2 shower outlets.
4-Port diverter is for 3 shower outlets.
etc.

But be careful: Some diverters come with 2 inlets, one on each side. In this case, One inlet has to be PLUGGED. You use the other one for incoming water. In this case:

4 Port diverter is for 2 shower heads
5 Port diverter is for 3 shower heads
etc.

First, you have to identify which one is the INLET and which are the OUTLETS. This may be confusing but it is very important to ensure proper installation. If you didn't connect it correctly, you get exactly what you got now.
