Please, please, please do not allow these two dogs to mate. The world does not need more puppies. Dogs and puppies are being euthanized 24/7 at shelters everywhere because no one wants them. Please get your dogs fixed.

From the sounds of it I would say you are a backyard breeder, I am not going to be harsh but I will tell you a few things that NEED to be considered before breeding.

Are your dogs show quality?
Do you know the breed standard for your breed?
Your dog MUST be an excellent example of the breed before you even think about using him at stud to your female, no they don't have to be shown in the conformation ring but it does help determine good quality, type and temperament.

Have both your dogs been health tested?
Now this DOES NOT include a trip to the vet to make sure they are healthy, dogs can pass on genetic diseases and condition just like humans.
I am not sure what breed you have but if it is a larger dog then some breeds are susceptible to hip dysplasia and you MUST do hip scores on your dogs.
If it's a smaller breed then some can get PRA which is degenerative blindness, also a testable disease.
They are just 2 examples, there are a multitude of tests that must be done.

Thirdly do you have around $3,000 cash lying about? That is how much it will cost you if something goes wrong during whelping and your b*tch needs a c-section, not to mention cost of microchipping, vaccinating, worming and feeding the pups.

Finally do you have at least 6 pre-orders for puppies from people who have called you via the AKC?
If you are a registered/reputable breeder (which from your question I would say not) then you should be loaded with orders for puppies.

I strongly urge you to reconsider this mating and get your b*tch spayed unless you have met the above criteria.

Like shazamataz, I will assume you are in North America. Here is a pretty fair reference list of breeders in the States.

Dog Breeders Directory AKC Breeds and Dog Breed Information (http://www.breedersusa.com/)

Let me urge you to contact some of them for tips on becoming a responsible breeder.
