The few memories I have of this anime have been plaguing me for many years. If anyone knows the title of this anime (movie or series I dunno) you'll become my hero.

The very few things I can recall.

A city/village of people are attacked at a certain interval by either an army of giant, shelled snail creatures (or people riding giant, shelled snail creature I can't recall which)

They find help in the form of some sort of captain, an old gruff guy with a big beard who carries two guns. When he (literally) jumps into battle at one point he tucks his legs up and crosses his arms over his chest with both guns in hand. I remember thinking as a kid that that looked really cool.

The villagers with the captain guy's help fend of the snail-things and at the end there is a really haunting song/theme that I couldn't get out of my head for weeks at the time.

Anyone who knows what the heck I'm talking about and could provide the title of this movie/series will be the recipient of all of my gratitude and possibly a small shrine in my closet that I leave offerings of beer and girly mags for (or y'know guy-ly mags if that's your thing). ^_^

It could be an anime movie called Warriors of the Wind (American title) or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Japan and Euro title). Same movie, two slightly different versions, different voice actors and music. It came out around mid 80's early 90's, features giants, monster snails, and a cool gruff old guy with a beard named Lord Yappa. He had two swords and could really fight. Check YouTube for different versions. Second link here shows Lord Yappa fighting.

Thanks for the reply. I felt like an idiot when I realized that someone had already gotten an answer about this movie in another thread. The different soundtracks is news to me though.

I've since bought the original Nausicaa and the "Requiem" theme is lovely but it didn't strike me as being the song I'd heard that'd gotten stuck in my head way back when. Knowing there's a different soundtrack is good, gives me hope that I hadn't romanticized Nausicaa's Requiem and that the song I can't remember actually exists. So thanks (runs to check into it... )
