Good Morning!! In June I had a missed miscarriage(empty sac). After that I did not get my period. On Sept 26 I had negative pregnancy test and Oct 6 positive pregnancy test. Yesterday 3rd November(4 weeks since I found out I was pregnant) I had a vaginal scan. Sac and embryo(measures 6mm) were there but no heart beat. He said I might be 6 weeks pregnant. Doctor asked me come for another scan next week.. According to dates of positive pregnancy test, I should be 8-9 weeks by now and should see heart beat.. But that not happened.. Is it a viable pregnancy?

Unfortunately we cannot tell you if it's a viable pregnancy or not. This is something that you will have to discuss with your doctor.

Hi flower,
Sorry to hear of your sad loss. I fell pregnant late last year and shortly after, I was rushed into hospital suffering chest pains and vaginal bleeding. Like you, from the pregnancy test that I had taken, I thought I was 9 weeks pregnant but it turned out that I was 5 weeks pregnant. My doctor said that it can sometimes be very difficult to determine how advanced a pregnancy is as it is based on the assumption that you have a very regular period i.e every 4 weeks. He also said that he couldn't find my baby's heartbeat from the examination that he performed as usually, the heart starts beating at roughly six weeks, but again it's based on how many weeks you are. I was rushed in for a scan as he wanted to check that I didn't have any blood clots and that the baby was OK. At first they couldn't trace the heart but after about half an hour they found it :).
I am sure that it is a viable pregnancy so I wish you good luck for your scan and I hope that everything turns out OK for you.
Take care

Please don't give false hope. You don't know that it is a viable pregnancy. As an educated OB/GYN nurse, even I cannot guarantee it is a viable pregnancy without doing an ultrasound myself.

What J9 is saying is correct.

We cannot tell you if this is a viable pregnancy. There is a chance (regardless of the HPT) that you are not as far along as you think. I know the wait must be hard, but another ultrasound is the only way to know for sure.

Good luck
