I cashed a cheque from an employer at Money Mart.. it bounced he dissappeared.. I got a court order against him but of course can't be found. Money Mart says I'm on the hook. I agree to make payments.. but they won't send me a receipt for a payment so I say until I get it I'm not paying anymore. A year passes collection agency calls saying they'll garnish my wages(and want more than the original amount oweing.. claiming interest). The original cheque bounced in 2000 my last payment was in May 2005.. leaving about $950. I can't make that in one payment.. I don't want to pay more than I owe(what they are asking for).. what can I do?

Go to the Money Mart and Make them a offer and try to work it out, if not wait and go to court when they sue and hope the judge will accept the offer you are making. Since they are having to pay a fee to the collection agency, they may accept your offer

How did you pay them originally? If you paid by check or money order then you had your receipt. So there shouldn't have been a hassle.
