I would like to purchase operating system software off the net for a new computer I intend to build after Christmas.

Because I wish to run XP Professional I want to purchase the software now in case the software is not available when the computer is completed, however, I am unsure of what to do, so that I can download the software now and have it available for use as the operating system for my new computer next year.

Could somebody please give me some advice or tips on how I might do this.

Thanks

You can probably buy XP professional on e-bay. It's no longer generally available from stores. You'll want to get it on CD. You boot from the CD and follow the instructions. There are a lot of sites on the web that will tell you how to do it. Simply Google "Windows XP Clean Install"

Thanks Perito

I understand about its unavailability in stores that is why I wanted to take the opportunity to use the down load option
