I've never heard about hormones causing hair loss (maybe others have), but I have heard of stress causing it. I had a friend who would lose frightening amounts of hair all the time around tests. It got so bad when she had to take the SATs her dr told her to use rogaine. Have you been stressed since the abortion?

Yes I have been very stressed, that's what everyone keeps telling me it is, I started taking a multivitamin, hoping it will help. But I don't know if stress causes "that much" hairloss

What specifically is making you feel stressed?
Sometimes it helps to talk about it.

Well a lot of things, single mom, work an overnight stressful job, relationship problems with the recent boyfriend I got pregnant with, seems after the abortion everything kind of went downhill.. just tired over all.

I had an abortion as well about 2 months ago and mine is falling out in large amounts as well.. the doctors told me that I had a very high hormone level after as I was getting head aches but I never thought to mention the hair loss. I am really starting to get scared as well.

I had an abortion about 3/4 months ago, it was a really stressful time in my life and now I am losing small amounts of hair. My doctor said it was due to the truama my body has suffered.

Just the fact that you were pregnant at all causes hair loss. Google "post abortion pregnancy hair loss" and you will see a lot of women have experienced the same thing. It is hormonal. During pregnancy, the hormone estrogen is highly present and it causes a lot of hair growth. Pregnant women, by full term, usually have a beautiful head of luxurious hair. But once the baby is delivered, just like you lose the extra weight from pregnancy, your body sheds the extra hair. Now, with abortion its like you never got the extra hair growth because the pregnancy wasn't fully brought to term, but your body is still doing its job of getting rid of what would have been your extra hair. All your body knows is that you're not pregnant anymore so it needs to do all of the "not pregnant anymore" stuff, like getting rid of your extra hair. But you don't have extra hair so you are really noticing the difference. It usually only lasts 3 or 4 months, and it can take up to another 6 months before you see the regrowth, but it shouldn't be permanent. Just make sure you are sleeping, eating well, and drinking a lot of water so that your body is healthy enough to regrow your hair. Try to make sure you are setting aside time to relax and laugh and be with people who make you feel whole and loved, because happy hormones make your body do all the things you want it to. Good luck!
