Hi,

I have a question regarding my name correction on my old Indian passport and H1 papers.
I am a citizen of India and was issued an Indian passport in 1999.
My name on this old passport was incorrectly mentioned as ****************. My correct name is *************. It was my mistake that I never really noticed it. In 2007, I applied for L1 visa to USA and landed in USa in jan 2007. On my L1 papers also, my name is mentioned as "*******************", which was taken from my passport.
While in US, I applied for a H1b visa in 2008 and got it. I changed my status from L1 to H1.On my H1 papers also my name is *************** which was taken from my passport.
My passport expired in 2009 and I got a new passport from Indian Consulate in Washington DC. In my new passport I got my name corrected and is now mentioned *********.But the new passport does not have H1b visa stamped as I opted for change of status from L1 to H1 visa without leaving USA.
Though my new passport has my correct name, my H1b papers still show my incorrect name.
This might be a problem when I go for visa stamping or apply for Green Card.
I contacted the Indian Consulate in SFO, but they are not helping me in any way.
Please advise me on this.

Regards,

*** I edited out the names, the issue is that one of the four given names is in the wrong place on the passport according to their actual name. So thing, John Adam Charles Smith as their real name, and the passport is saying Adam John Charles Smith

Hi Sun, Per my understanding the US Consulate can reissue the visa with the correction. May be some fee will be involved. Try contacting an immigration attorney and take their advice. Good Luck :-))
