I work in a restaurant that has a breakage fee of $2 per shift that is suppose to recover the cost of broken glasses or dishware. However it has come to my attention that this restaurant doesn't pay for its glassware. While the $2 fee might not seem like a lot, myself and others have been working there for years paying out thousands of dollars in breakage fees to the restaurant. Aside from the ethical issues, is this fee legal?

Does this go into a fund where the glassware is paid from.

How much "breakage" is there.

The employee who breaks something should be the one paying for damages.

"legal" not sure it is illegal although an employee may have the rights to ask for an accounting of this.

It should be going into a special fund for that usage
