Hi there, I don't know if anyone can help...

My 6 year old cat, Smudge, has not eaten/drank anything now for 4 days solid, he's acting completely unlike himself, he's so quiet, where normally we can't shut him up (he's a Pursian/Burman - known for being very vocal), he's just sitting in a ball sleeping most of the time. He's normally so lively, running about, playing like a kitten, chasing my feet etc. I took him to the vest last night, they checked his temperature, his stomach, his bones, his gums to see if he was dehydrated, his claws, everything. But they said there's nothing at all wrong with him, he's perfectly healthy. However, they gave him an anti-biotic shot and a painkiller in case there was anything that they didn't find. He's still exactly the same today. The vets have said that if he still hasn't eaten/drank anything by tomorrow they want to admit him and put him on fluids. I really don't want them to have to take him in, he's like a baby to me as I don't have my own children. Does anyone have any answers on what this could be?? X

They want you to take him back in if his condition is noticeably deteriorating and I think you should. It would be selfish not to. Protect him as if he were your own child and have him looked after properly by a doctor if you want to keep him around.

Four days of being in the condition he is in is not good, obviously. There is no way we couldn diagnose what is wrong.

Thanks Tickle, I will take him back, I wouldn't just leave him as he's so precious to me. I just really don't want to have to, it's upsetting me now just thinking about it! I just don't understand what's wrong with him, he's usually so lively and noisy! He's actually got up and gone out in the garden now which is better than him just laying around sleeping. I'll see how he is later and if he's still not eaten tomorrow I'll take him back to the vets for the appointment. It's just so frustrating when you know there's something wrong but the vet's can't work out what. :o( x

Whoa whoa.
Four days not eating is VERY serious! Take him to a different vet.
Did they do any bloodwork?
A cat not eating for 24 hours is serious and can lead to permanent liver damage.
