How long do you wait before painting treated wood

I know that some treated wood you get has been in a warehouse for a while. However, I know that in most cases it takes about a year for the wood to be paintable/stainable. If you think it may have been in a warehouse for some time... the best way to tell is if it has started cracking and splits easily when nailed.

The moisture from the chemicals make it soft and easy to bend and nail, however when it is gone the wood is subject to expansion and shrinkage due to the climate, often causing it to have cracks.

Or you buy or rent a moisture meter and test down to about 15%
