I do NOT recommend this. What you want is to create a WEB site. I would recommend that you contract with a WEB host service to do this. They will help you register your Domain and set it up for access by WEB browsers. Running your own server is not cost effective. You can get a decent WEB host for under $10/mth.

If you decide to shut down the business, just have the WEB host shut the site or replace your default.htm page with an out of business page.

Hmmm, the only possible reason I can see would be for illegal activities.

OH no not 4 that at all but I want pplz to be able to dl from my sever and from what I understand is that if you go out and get a website and pay 4 it you will pay some good $ to upload programs on that site that's y I want to make my own sever

Second reason is frankly lol I never made a sever and just want to know how to do it but as far as illegal stuff I am NOT that guy at all my friend:D

Again, I do not recommend this. First, most web hosts include a transfer threshold. So lets say your site uploads/downloads 50G/month. You then pay a specific price. If you need more you pay more.

Second, most residential broadband services prohibit running a server. If you have a lot of activity they WILL notice and shut you down.

Third, if you are operating a commercial site, you need to be sure your site will be up 24/7. If you run your own server, you have to be prepared to maintain it 24/7, provide security against people misusing it and make sure your connection is always up. A web host service has a staff to do that, you don't.

Most companies use WEB hosts, even some very large ones. The only companies that can cost effectively host their own are those that already have large server complexes that are staffed 24/7. otherise it just doesn't pay.

I have NEVER seen a compelling reason to host your own commercial server. If you want to learn more about setting up a WEB server, you can set one up internally for testing purposes. But I stand by my recommendation to NOT publicly host your own server.
