I'd really appreciate some assistance in how to go about replacing the thermocouple in a rather old Green Colonial furnace. The thermocouple is looking very scorched and will not keep the pilot lit. I've managed to unscrew the fitting from the small tube at the bottom but am not sure if the thermocouple needs to be unscrewed from the bracket. Here's an image:

A couple of further questions... Is the brass tube part of the thermocouple or does it separate. Should I take off the whole bracket that holds both the pilot & t-couple?

Step by step would be appreciated.

Unscrew bottom of thermocouple fitting and then pull down to release thermocouple. Then unscrew where thermocouple attaches to the gas valve. Replace as removed OR follow the directions on most thermocouple packages. Very simple and pay attention to the placement of the end of the thermocouple bulb and pilot flame relationship.

Ric - did u find any parts for the furnace? I've got one too - coal converted to gas, and the bellows in the diaphram has shot craps! Researching the net for a replacement, otherwise a whole new furnace is in order. I live in Ft Madison, IA. Thanks Dana [email protected]
