Hello Me and my husband have temporary custody of out 3 grand children ages 6/8/and 16 months.. My daughter has drug issues and my son inlaw wants custody of the kids.. We stopped visitation due to my son inlaw stating to me on the phone he was afraid to leave the 16 month old alone with his girlfriend due to her age which is 20 and that they have a son together also 6 months younger.. My son inlaw took us back to court we were in contempt.. The magistrate ordered his visits start back again but the kids were not to be left alone with the girlfriend.. Since then the kids did visit and were left alone with the Girlfriend////Also my son inlaw was in the pool with his 6 and 8 year old swimming,The baby which is 16 months was left alone to roam around the pool area fully clothed with his security pillow in one hand and sippy cup in the other.. Mind you my 16 month old grandson is walking and very active.. So while the daddy was swimming with the 6 and 8 year old my grandson fell in the pool with no floaties or any floatation devices on.. When my husband and myself picked the 3 kids up from there visit my son inlaw he told us the 16 month olds shoes were wet he fell in the pool... He neglected to say he hit the back of his head when he fell in the pool... :mad:I callled Dcf they said it wasn't a supervision issue.. What should I do our worst fears have come true and on there first visit back.. If my son inlaw wins custody back that would be a total of (5) children in the house hold ages 4/6/8/10 months/and 16 months.. All we really want are for the kids to be safe and Happy.. My son inlaws Girlfriend has said on many occaisons that she does not accept the 16 month old and calls him ugly names... Some advice.. Are we fighting a losing battle here?

Do you have proof of these things? Are you keeping a journal?

You had no right to stop visitation without court approval. But if you can prove the problems, you stand a good chance of keeping custody.

How did you get temp custody in the first place? Why didn't the father step up?

At the time we got custody the father was in jail for DUI/habitual traffic offender.. And yes I took my grandson to the er to have him checked and the physician said by the looks of injury was consistent with being at the fathers house that weekend.. Also my grand daughters seen the whole thing.. The oldest said there brother went down in the pool all you could see was the top of his head

Ok, you need to have a journal that documents all these abuses. That will help in court.
